Review: Eiswerk - Kameraden Des Todes

Germany has a good reputation to hold when it comes to pagan/folk metal, so with a lot of expectations the album 'Kameraden Des Todes' was given a spin. The bonus tags 'avant-garde' and 'experimental' added to the expectations regarding originality. Much did I know unknown depths of the genre were to be discovered within the next 45 minutes.

The first 4 songs can be described as a unpolished mess of trollish growls, nu-metal riffage and completely nonsensical interludes.  Drunk chaos which is not even funny to listen to at all.

From 'Sturmgesang' onwards the first listenable melodies are heard and finally the listener is give a moment to recover.  Along with the awfully catchy 'Green Goblin' and 'Wohin Adler Ziehn' a first glimpse of listening pleasure can be obtained, because you know that after all it's all a joke.  Sadly enough with the new focus on melodies the poor mixing and production is uncovered.

'Trollzug' represents the whole point of this album very well: Get the listener trolled!  As a reviewer you sit the rest of the album through, but many listeners will have reached for the mute button already and moved along with good music instead.

Conclusion: Only listen to this album when either 'drunk' or in the mood for getting trolled.
